Tohaa Sakiel WIP

Tohaa Sakiel WIP #1 Inside-out man!
Inside-out man!

I sure do jump around a lot when it comes to painting…

While struggling to contain my painting fatigue/ADD in the wake of our recent Journeyman and some commission work for  locals, I’ve been taken with Infinity as detailed in my last two posts.

Welp, last night I broke out another one of my Tohaa models, this time the Sakiel, and worked on him to about 60% completion.  Base colors are all there and his symbiote armor (awesome) is at least done.

I was making up the color scheme as I went along really, until about have way, I decided to do the “flesh on the outside” and bone scheme you see here.  I’m waiting for a new brush to come in so I can make attempts at wetblending some highlights on the armor plating and weapon, so for now, he’s going to be stuck in this state for at least a week or so…

Still not sure about the glowing bits (although as you can see, I’m leaning towards blue) or the base.  I originally planned on doing a green dirt base, but I may actually tap Secret Weapon pigments and use their Wet Earth kit instead.  I’ve been wanting to try out pigments for a bit anyway.

In related news, tonight is going to be our Infinity demo night, as with the Journeyman AND Nova Open finally behind us, burn out is quite high I think in our crew. Along with Infinity demos, I predict much BS-ing around and High Command being played.  On the plus side, it seems like a good number of our players are actually pretty excited about Infinity as well, even as at the same time, there are some talking about becoming MUCH more competitive WM players.  So far here’s the faction breakdown we have:

  • 1x Tohaa (me obviously)
  • 2x ALEPH
  • 2x Nomads
  • 1x Yu Jing
  • 1x Haqqislam
  • 1x Pan Oceania

Of course, I’ll let you know my thoughts here some time next week, after I’m gotten in some demo games and had time to digest them a bit!

Warmachine: Tactics for PC & Mac announced!

So that long awaited Warmachine video game?  Yeah it’s no longer a 3rd person action title (that reminded me a bit of Destiny Warriors), but a strategy game seemingly more akin to the actual table top game.

And surprise, surprise they’re going to Kickstarter for the funding.  I am willing to bet they have no problems surpassing their goal in less than 12 hours.

While rampant speculation isn’t really my thing (I’ll leave that to the forums), I’m cautiously optimistic about the project.

Check out the Press Release here and Matt Wilson’s Insider here for more info.

In the meantime, enjoy the trailer!

Templecon 2013 Hardcore List v2…

Templecon 2013
The countdown is ever looming…

After some playtesting with the Hardcore list I outline in an earlier post which used pSev and a lot of discussion and spitballing of ideas, I decided to tweak my list a bit.

I found that it was indeed a very potent list, but not the most friendly for a timed format.  It packed an abundance of AOEs, which just ate away at my clock.  At the NOVA Open, the clock was my greatest enemy as the only losses my eKreoss suffered were because I clocked myself.  I really want to avoid this situation again.  If I lost, I want it to be because I was outplayed, not out attrition-ed with the clock.

So the first of the changes is a big one this late in the game…a warcaster swap…

Slow grow/Journeyman battleboxes!
“Bow or Burn. Either way, there will be one less heretic today.”

Road to Templecon 2013: Getting my Hardcore list ready…

Couldn’t find a better pic…

I’m going to Templecon 2013!

Last year I didn’t go because I was just getting into the game and didn’t even have 35 points yet, plus what I did have was barely put together or painted.  Oh what a difference a year makes…I think this hobby has actually fully bloomed into an addiction, but I digress…

Back to Templecon!  I’ve signed up for the Hardcore, and two of the midnight madness style events.  Sadly, Blood, Sweat, and Tiers (an event I really enjoy) was full 😦  I’m also still looking for a third for the team tournament.

But this post is going to focus on a bit of theorymachine and my plans for the Hardcore tourney, which is an event I’ve never actually taken part in.  I’ve never had a fully painted viable 50 point army yet (although I could field a fully painted 50 point list), so that is the first challenge.  The next challenge is actually myself.  I’ve recently been trying to shed my “whatevs” attitude towards playing and gaining a more competitive edge.  So far my average tournament record is 1-3.  I aim to change this.

But how?

New commission site set up: Rocket Powered Paint Brush!

Rocket Powered Paint Brush!

So I started to do some house keeping on ye olde blog and noticed that while it is still very focused on my painting, it has also expanded to include a variety of other topics (all still pretty related to Warmachine though).  Something I still would like to do however is get into more commission work, mostly as a means of funding my own hobby ideas and intentions.

And with that, I created a new site: Rocket Powered Paint Brush!  It is separate from this site, although the content will mostly also appear on this blog.  I wanted to do this as a means of streamlining the process, so to speak, and keeping that part separate (business-wise) from my nattering here.  This way, if you (or someone you know) is interested in some commission work, you can go there and see the good stuff, rather than shuffle through the various posts on Mini Army, Huge Time Sink.

Here’s that link again!

Journeyman Painting Competitions! Go vote for your favorite now!

Our Journeyman League just wrapped up last Sunday, so the only thing left now is to wrap up the various raffles and side competitions we have going on.
The big ones are the Painting Competitions!  We have one for both the 15 point level and also the 35 point level.  Plarzoid created some polls on the Privateer forums where you can go and cast your vote for your favorite or who you think should be the winner!

And now for something completely different: Relic Knights!

So this Relic Knights kickstarter has been the talk of our gaming group lately, and also of a great many of the blogging community that I follow.

I came across some of the Relic Knight models awhile ago and thought they were cool (they have a few at the store I play at) but I thought they were just like pin-up statue type things.  Now there is a game around it and a lot of our guys are excited about it.  It’s the kind of hype I’ve been looking for Infinity around here.

Well, their Kickstarter is only a few days from being over now and the amount of stuff you can get is amazing!  I’m getting together with Plarzoid and splitting one of the packs. I think it’s better to get two people 1 starter each so you have 2 players, rather than 1 player with 2 factions :).

Which faction am I going with?

I’ve decided to go with the Black Diamond.  The reasoning is that they look like a shooty faction.  Thus it would actually be different from all the melee centric Warmachine (and the Legion Rearguard I got brewin’) armies I tend to play.  Speaking of the other factions I was considering: Since Menoth has become my main squeeze, that automatically DQ’ed the paladin faction for me.  The Noh were actually my second choice however, because the models are really cool, but with the Rearguard list I’ve got in the queue, it’s almost the same idea (ninjas and Onis).  The pirates were the third choice, but I like some models but hate the others.  The other two factions I just don’t like enough of the models enough to field them.

I’m still debating getting the big Diamondback Armor.  It’s really awesome, but I’m worried about spending a lot on a game I’m not 100% I’ll like, know what I mean?

Very happy with my my faction choice.
Very happy with my my faction choice. Still debating that Diamondback armor though…

You can check out more faction shots here.  Anyone else getting into this? What do you plan on running?

Where’s the NoVA Open coverage and other posts?!

Sorry I haven’t reported much yet, I guess I’m still recoving from all the warmachinin’ over the weekend, and the Journeyman League that is ending this Sunday (I’m currently third in all three categories (games, hobby, total points), my best league showing yet), which has caused me to burn out on painting for a bit…more updates are coming I promise.

Cool Stuff: Kinetic 7: A Skirmish Games Magazine

I just wanted to give a quick shout out and plug to the people over at Kinetic 7 Magazine.  They’ve put out an awesome magazine detailing the hobby that includes some really great interviews and articles.  I really wish them success, mostly so I can keep on reading ’em.  CHeck it out!  Oh, did I mention that it’s free?

Sidenote: NoVA Open in 2 days!!  I’m pumped, but sadly, I don’t think I’ll be able to fully paint my Errants by then :/

The Nomads will be hitting the NoVA Open in Style!

-2 Street Cred, +3 Nerd Cred.
-2 Street Cred, +3 Decency, and +1 to STR surprisingly.

With the NoVA Open happening in just one short week, our gaming group (named the Nova Nomads in case it wasn’t obvious), will be rocking the house with our new snazzy t-shirts designed by yours truly!

I’m sure it’s going to be asked, yes, it does say “Let’s GO This!”  It’s an little inside thing that came from some overzealous typing (and autocorrecting) while on my phone in our Google Group and from there it just kind of ran with us and became a rallying cry of sorts.
