O hai Mr. Archangel…[PIC]

Legion of Everblight Archangel
Legion of Everblight Archangel: With wings like that, you’ll probably need a separate bag to to transport it in.

Matt Wilson just tweeted another pic of the Legion Archangel and it’s looking pretty sexy.

Although with all the Legion players in my meta, I CAN wait for this thing to come out, especially after hearing about some its rules…

Kallus, the Wrath of Everblight is ready to take the field!

Just last week I posted a pic of the Kallus I began working on over the previous weekend.  In it I talked a little about the new methods I was trying out for metals.

I’ve been battling a bout of painting ADD lately after our Journeyman recently ended, so I’m very happy to report that he’s finally done once I was able to sit down and focus on him.  As you can see in the pics, this guy (in my opinion) came out superb!  I’m happy with the way the sword, the armor, his face, hell, even the base, came out!  And if you look closely (my camera couldn’t get it clearly in about ten or so tries), I even gave him a red pupil!  Like the kind that people have in their eyes! So that’s another first in this model!

Sadly however, he won’t really see the table until I finish painting my Rearguard list.  I have vowed to not place that army on the table until it is 100% painted.  Yes, Rearguard is a Rhyas theme force, but I managed to pick up Kallus for super cheap last Black Friday because I liked the model before I had even decided on rolling with Legion. I think he was something like $3.50-$4, so how could I turn that down?  It worked out anyway, because I also think he will work great with the models I have in the Rearguard list for a little bit of variety or spice when I need it.

Enjoy the gallery and as always, C & C is  greatly appreciated!

Working on my metals…with a Kallus WIP.

His armor is starting to look like…armor…

I’ve always felt that I’ve had an issue with metals.  They have always been something (or at least it’s seemed to me) that doesn’t quite look right. Either they are ‘goopy’ looking, thick, or stick out on the model in a bad way. I also wanted to get away from the pooled wash/slathered on thick wash look.

So I went hunting on the webs and decided to try a couple of new things I found including dry brushing the metals on instead of painting them on like I do regular colors, making my own washes (not going quite like I had hoped) and using multiple washes/types on an area.My old way was to paint on the metals like any other color, coat it with some GW wash and then edge highlight it.  When I started my Menoth, I experimented with some other methods, especially with regards to gold with some help from Plarzoid, that I believe bore some fruit.  So Kallus here is a culmination of those efforts and my findings and observations.

What do you think so far? Am I on the right path? I do kinda wish I had done like a purple or blue wash or glaze on some of the inner parts as well just to give it that little extra…

Also what are some of your techniques for getting that perfect metallic look?

For this second “Cool Stuff” post, I bring you some amazing random miniatures that I have found on my travels along the interwebz.

Wow.  Just wow.

I am in love with the way Malfunction on the forums is doing his Legion of Everblight.  I don’t know what this style of painting is called, but it’s just so…vibrant.  The painter has a thread going on the Privateer Press Forums where he is chronicling his Legion.  You can pop on over there to keep an eye on it.
