The 2013 NF2L Season is upon us!

I’m not sure if you remember my Snowmen from last year and their abysmal season (save for their season opener), but it’s time for the 2013 season of the NF2L league that our gaming group does.  This year saw a ton of changes, including a caster draft (the results of which are below), a much shorter “season”, and more restrictions on lists.  Also it somehow worked out that this year that everyone would be playing a Warmachine faction…

This year I’ll be going with Menoth and my team name is The Torch Bearers (logo pending)…

Below are the results of our caster draft.  A little word on how it worked:  Each player got 4 “picks” depending on ending position last session (new players went last randomly).  I mentioned more restrictions on lists above.  Well, this year is modeled after Masters tournaments where the format is 3 lists, 50 points.  So each had to pick 3 casters at least.  You could also use one of your picks to drop a caster out of the running, which is why you see some with 3, some with 4 choices.

Results of the 2013 Caster Draft:

Ron Kreoss3 pSevy eFeora
Danny eLiche pDenny Gaspy3
Mark eGoreshade Terminus Mortenebra
Kevin pIrusk eSorscha Old Witch Vlad3
Hawk Fiona Damiano Ossram
Chris Ravyn Rahn Kaelyssa
Gary Harbinger Reznik Thyra
Brendon pStryker pNemo pCaine Kraye
Zach eNemo eHaley eStryker
Bruce Karchev pSorcha pButcher

Since I had first pick, I immediately went with the hard hitters.  I’ve only gotten 2 games in with Kreoss3 so far, but I’ve enjoyed playing him a lot, so he was my first pic.  pSevy is an easy one, not much explanation needed there.  Then, knowing my fondness for eKreoss T4 and how much I’ve been playing pKreoss, both were summarily taken out of the running…I was lucky enough to get eFeora though, so it’s a bit of a wash.  I completely drew a blank on my last pick and seeing as she was available…had I remembered him though, I probably would have went with Vindictus as he’s another caster I really enjoy playing and am pretty comfortable with.  I have this idea of running him with a mess of Cinerators and Bastions, but I guess it’s for the best since my Bastion conversions probably wouldn’t have been ready in time (my being wrapped up in a number of commissions at the moment)

List Time!

For this season, we have to create 3 lists (the third can be introduced the fourth week in), and those lists are locked for the duration.  From the second week on, we can add 10 points of specialists to each list however.

For my Kreoss3 list, I went with a list a tried out against Zac.  In the initial iteration, it had max Bastions and the new Seneschal in place of Vengers.  But the Seneschal wouldn’t be out until near the end of the league, so Vengers it was.  I know that sounded like heresy with Kreoss3, but the Bastions were there to hold points (in the test game, they gave me 3 out of the needed 5 scenario points).   The problem I have with Kreoss3, is that the man wants EVERYTHING in his army.  He wants heavy jacks for Warpath, support for said warjacks, focus support for his huge toolbox of spells, Vengers for Divine Inspiration, and so on.  It all starts to add up quickly.

You’ll notice that my pSevy list is pretty much my first draft of my Hardcore list detailed here.  While it wasn’t the correct list for the Hardcore format at all (now that I’m more familiar with that format, I’ve gone in a completely different direction for those events),  I’m hoping it fairs better in this format.  In casual play it is frustratingly strong I’ve found (except against maybe cav armies).

  1. Have you ever thought about using your choir as a tarpit unit? They are very cheap bodies on the table with reach and a fearsome statline.

Give me a piece of your mind (mmm your delicious, delicious mind...).
